unimpressive – better to bring your own!)

A large selection of books and DVD’s are available
during your stay.
You can take a sauna (€5 for 1 person, €7 for 2)
We can provide a packed lunch or an evening meal (€8)
by prior arrangement –
e.g. home-made pizza and salad/coleslaw, sardines,
curry, stir-fry,
febras (veal escalopes) and chips,
vegetarian meals etc.

A coffee in a café costs 50-70 cents.
There are several local cafés where a typical
Portuguese lunch with a jug of wine and a coffee costs
€6 (£4) because it’s regulated by law. Evening meals
are always dearer.

Serpins Rail Station is 7 mins drive away, and for €2
provides an hour long pretty mountain railway ride to
Coimbra.  A good day out in an inexpensive laid-back
city famous for its ancient university.

We live in the foothills of the
Serra de Lousã, with
stunning views. The days are usually warm and dry,
ideal for walking. In summer it is hot, over 30ºC.
Clive is an experienced walker and offers guided walks
into the mountains.

Examples of walks:

  1. Gorge de Cabril; car to Serpins then 1½hr. 5km;
    fairly easy.
  2. Sta Eufemia via forest to Isabel’s café (for lunch!)
    1½hrs +½hr back. 7km; medium.
  3. High forest road and 3 villages (Valada, Soutelo),
    2½ hr.  10km; medium.
  4. Car then 2 abandoned villages (aldeas de xisto).
    7km; medium.
  5. Car to Lousã, then into the Serra 2½ hrs 6km;
    fairly taxing.

Examples of meals
Breakfast according to what you want, eg fresh fruit or
